Daily Life and Social Structure
Social Class
In the social pyramid there were six layers. The pharaoh of Egypt was in charge of making the decisions for the people. Next going from top to bottom in the pyramid are the government officials. The government officials carried out the orders of the pharaoh. Next are the scribes, these people record information for the government and religious leaders. The artisans are craftsmen, metal workers, painters, and stone carvers. They are highly skilled and had low social status. Finally the peasants are at the bottom of the social class, but had the highest population of people. They were farmers and builders in this community.
Men And Women
In Ancient Egypt there was a basic daily life for everyone. At this time men and women were some what equal. Except, the men were the head of the house. They would do the yard work and protect the house. Also the fathers would train their sons to do his job at a young age. They would learn how to do the farming and how to work with the ox. The women would manage the home inside. They also raised the children, but not train them. Women could own land, run businesses, ask, for divorces, and represent themselves in legal matters. This women were in the middle and first class. This was only if their jobs were doctors, government officials, and priests.

Pharaoh Khufu ruled from about 2551 B.C.E. to 2528 B.C.E. in the Old kingdom. He was a harsh ruler at his time. This pharaoh is also the one who built the pyramid. The pharaoh after Khufu is Pharaoh Senusret. He was a strong leader and run a stable and unified Egypt. He ruled from 1971 B.C.E to 1926 B.C.E. The next ruler is Hatshepsut. She was the first female pharaoh. She encouraged trade and art work flourished during her ruling. Hatshepsut would dress as a man to gain respect and so people thought of her the same.
She ruled between 1473 B.C.E. and 1458 B.C.E.
